Drugs to be Avoided 2017-04-04T09:44:00+00:00

Ayahuasca is classified as MAOI (Monoamine oxidase inhibitor), meaning that it has specific interactions with some types of medications/drugs/herbs.  You are advised to abstain from the following list of prescription and recreational drugs which may cause severe illness and/or are not compatible with Ayahuasca if consumed before your ceremony.

NOTE:  You are fully responsible for informing us of any current medications being taken and any past or current recreational drug usage prior to your booking.

Classifications of Drugs NOT Compatible:

– SSRI’s (any selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor)
– Antihypertensives (high blood pressure meds)
– Appetite suppressants (diet pills)
– Meds for asthma, bronchitis, or other breathing problems
– Meds for colds, sinus problems, hay fever, or allergies (anything with DM or tuss in its name)
– CNS (central nervous system) depressants
– Antipsychotics
– Barbituates
– Opiates
– Diuretics
– Anesthetics
– Seeping pills
– Tranquillizers
– Recreational drugs (including alcohol and marijuana)

Note about Marijuana & Alcohol:

Although marijuana holds many well documented healing properties, used in close proximity of an Ayahuasca experience leads to a mental cloudiness and fog that interferes with the visionary aspect of the journey and affects ones ability to recall/remember the insights received througout.  This cloud will not only affect your experience, but will also influence the clarity of the ceremony space, and therefore, the other participants as well. The same holds true about alcohol.

Specific Pharmaceutical Drugs NOT Compatible:

Please know that this is not a complete list as new pharmacuetical products are being released into the market regularly.  When in doubt, check with your doctor about it’s interaction with MAOI’s.
