waterThe digestive tract needs a regular washing. Cleansing the colon is arguably one of the most important practices we can adopt to maintain our health.  Saltwater cleansing is one way that purifies the digestive system and draws impurities out of organs inside the body.  Salt water cleanses may be used to boost the imune system, treat common colds, high blood pressure, digestive ailments, fever and degenerative related ailments.

The Saltwater Flush provides an internal bath for the body, drawing out toxins as it cleanses the entire intestinal tract. This method will cleanse the entire digestive tract while colonics and enemas will only reach the colon or a small part of it.  Although I have to say,  I have grown quite fond of the benefits of colonics, they  can be expensive, inconvenient and well, kind of gross!  Although some would argue that the saltwater more method is more invasion, for many it is a simple practice that can be done anywhere, even while away from home.  As with anything, experiment for yourself and find what works best for you.

NOTE: persons with very advanced forms of ulcer, appendicitis, intestinal tuberculosis, or cancer are recommended not to practice this technique.

Salt-Water Flush Recipe

  • 1-2 Quarts (yes, 1/2 gallon) of pure water – boil while stirring with salt, drink warm.
  • 1 Level Tablespoon Natural Salt *
  • Juice from a Lime/Lemon (optional)

*Salt from a natural source is better for cleaning the body than iodized salt. Sea salt, evaporated salt, and ground-based salt is fine.

The best time to drink your salt water mix and a common time for most spiritual practices is between 5AM and 6AM.  You will want do this for 7 days, then continue on a weekly or as needed basis.

What to Expect

Within the next hour after drinking the salt water, be prepared! You may feel headachey, queasy, even nauseated – as the salt water draws out toxins and carries them through the intestines. You’ll begin to visit the bathroom frequently, as the solution moves through the body fairly quickly. Some people evacuate all of the salt water within an hour or two, for others it may take a few hours.

For the rest of the day take it easy. If you are not doing it in conjunction with a fast, eat light (no fried, heavy, spicy food)  and do not drink alcohol. When you stop cleansing, watch what you eat and bring your body back to your normal diet slowly.  Drink plenty of  water.  You may want to eat vegetable soups , homemade broths , fresh vegetable juices, lightly seasoned steamed vegetables or chopped salads.  You will probably feel a good sense of increased energy and clear headedness afterwards.  Enjoy it, take a walk or do some light exercise if you feel like it, but for the most part just let your body rest and rejuvenate. Physical cleaning is often connected to a deeper more psychological and spiritual cleaning. Very soon you will be amazed at the effects on your energy, mood and emotions.
